I am so glad that we finally have a forum for "The Host."
I know that not only does Jared play a really big role in the book, but I also know that there is this HUGE controversy as to whether or not you should side with him.
In the beginning, I was under the impression that Jared was perfect. I thought that he would be involved in the happy ending with Wanda, or something along the lines of that. And I proved myself wrong. He was a jerk, he was mean, and he was biased. And I HATED it when he started talking to Wanda after the tribunal for Kyle's life, just because Ian kissed her forehead. Except, I was almost falling for him... Not to mention the kiss and lie he gave to her when she was about to be extracted from Mel's body.
But I got over that, even though now that I've sympathized with him, I am also happy with the way things are now. And I'm glad and thankful that he threathened Doc.
(Even though I did like Mel, I still think it was her fault for forcing all those memories on Wanda.)
So what do YOU think of him? Did you have mixed feelings? Or was there a point in the book where you hated him? Leave your thoughts here. I'm aching to know!

P.S. (I'm with Ian all the way!)
I wish there WERE leeches on my speed dial...

I am not a fan of Jared at all. In the beginning when you get Mel's memories of him when the three of them were living in the mountains I thought he was great and even a little sexy. But then when Wanda meets him he dug himself into a hole and didn't get out of it in my opinion.

I agree with Jaki.

I also think that for Jared to be perfect, would be to see Wanda as someone... not someone that took over Mel's body, but her own person. And I think, the people that were able to do that, are great people... (Jeb, Ian, Doc, Jamie)

I mean, I understand that Jared at all right to be mad but so did the rest of Mel's family, especially Jamie but Jamie wasn't mad... he accepted it.

I think if Jared excepted it, instead of trying to get Mel to take over the body, I think a lot of people would have liked him more.

True!
I sincerely don't like how he turns friendly in the end of Wanda's life in Wanda's body just because Wanda was finally leaving. He had no other reason to be nice.

I despised Jared when he kept hurting Wanda AND Melanie. But then he grew on me. I mean really, when he kept going to raids, I kept checking -peeking- to see if he were to come in a bit. I got disappointed when he didn't come early. But really, the pick between the two was incredibly hard.

I mean, both wanted what was best, but none of them really showed the love that Ian gave to Wanda, and of course Mel hated that.

Oh so hard to pick one.
"La Tua Cantante," Edward said. His voice made the words into music.
