July 2 - Question of the Week!

We know that the Cullens aren’t the only vampires in the world… How do you think the other vampires will play into Breaking Dawn? The Volturi? The Denali Clan? Vampires we know of, but haven’t seen, like Jasper’s ‘friends’ in the south?

I definitely think that we will see both the Volturi and the Denali Clan in Breaking Dawn.

There are several reasons why I think we will be seeing more of the Volturi. First of all, we have had waaay too many small interactions with them. It's time, once again, for a small character to play a big part in the next book. I believe that the Volturi will play a large part in Breaking Dawn. Second, we have been given a great many small, descriptive details about many of the Volturi that we haven't been given about other small characters who don't become big characters. Think about it: how well can you describe James? How well can you describe Jane? Aro? Heidi? See the difference? I feel it is inevitable that these descriptions will come in handy in book four.

The reasonS I think we will see more of the Denali Clan are these: I believe that Bella will eventually go to Alaska to live out her year or two as a newborn vampire. I do not necessarily think she will need to stay there, I just think that at some point the Cullens + Bella will go. Also, the whole Tanya "expressed interest" in Edwrad scenario is just too good of a setup for SM to not play it out. I think that some Tanya-Edward-Bella love triangle will play out, though the last thing this series needs is more complicated love triangles. :D

I believe that the Volturi are really going to play a major role in this book. SM really did leave us off at the end of Eclipse not really knowing what the heck is going to go down with the Volturi. She definitely left their storyline open for more interpretation; more than she did with the Denali Clan. They know, or think, at some point Bella is going to become a vampire. At one point or another, I think they're going to figure out how subjective Alice's premonitions are and will definitely want to come and check things out again with the excuse that they want come see dear, old Carlilse again.

I also think that The Volturi will probably want to come around and deal with the wolves as well. Maybe, they'll find out that the Cullens are in a treaty with the werewolves and will want everything to be resolved - ultimately eliminating the werewolves in the end since they do not honor treaties with werewolves.

The Denali Clan, at best, will play a minimal role in Breaking Dawn, in my opinion. Since Breaking Dawn is supposed to tie up loose ends, it'll probably be more interaction with Tanya than anything. Tanya had a thing for Edward and then there was another thing with Laurent and Tanya's sister (I forget her name - Irina or Irine or something to that sort). Tanya will probably want to come out and try to deal with the wolves for killing Laurent and may want to try and deal with the Cullens for allowing the wolves to kill Laurent.

As for the vampires from Jasper's past - I don't think we'll hear a whole lot more about them just because I don't think SM would want to open up another can of worms. A mention of it at best.

i don't think the southern vampires will come back, but i do agree that the volturi and denali loose ends will be tied up.

obviously, the volturi left things unsettled. they'll come back at some point (even though ppl say they're gonna crash the wedding, why would they? i mean, they said they'd come check up on bella, but why would they choose that particular day to check on her? it wouldn't just be coincidental... they'd have a reason for coming exactly on her wedding, and i can't think of any, especially knowing that there would be so many humans around, and they really dont wanna risk possible exposure.) so i think they'll come back, but not for the wedding.

the denali clan, will they be invited to the wedding?? i mean, they are friends with the cullens, so they could be invited... and i think their role and how extreme it is depends on tanya and irina's personalities, which we don't know much about. we don't know how jealous tanya will be (if at all), and we don't know how close irina and laurent were. were they mates? just friends? that would be a huge factor in determining how pissed she is at the wolves.

i don't think there'll be any other vampires, mainly cuz there are so many more loose ends to tie up and it would take too much time/pages to introduce new characters and have them be important. character development takes a while, and i think it's more important to have really good endings for the characters already present or mentioned.

I think both the Denali clan and the Volturri will have parts in Breaking Dawn. There are loose ends to be tied up, and I think the Tanya/Edward/Bella thing will just be too fantastic! I don't really see a reason for any of the vampires from Jasper's past to make an entrance, but who knows.

This Q & A occurred after New Moon and before Eclipse.
“How the Cullen got to know the Denali family, and when? Have they
some other friends, or other families they are in touch with?
Stephenie: Carlisle ran into the three main sisters earlier on, but they were just sort of looking into the vegetarian thing. They didn’t start out that way, for years and years they were the reason behind the myths about the succubus (In Western medieval legend, a succubus (plural succubi) is a demon who takes the form of a beautiful human female to seduce men (especially monks) in dreams to have sexual intercourse-
wikipedia.), they really like human men, but those humans were meal after all. After a while they started to develop a conscience, it didn’t seem right to have them as food, so they sort of evolved into vegetarian, whereas Carlisle was always that way. But they crossed paths and have a lot in common they’re both very civilized they’re able to get along.
The other vampire families would be in book four ,so really far away, but there are quite a few established covens whom Carlisle is friend with. Carlisle is a very friendly guy, people are fascinated with him, because is so kind and good and still a vampire.” (http://www.twilighters.it/interview.pdf)

I bolded the portion that really interested me. It never occurred to me that a new coven of vampires might be introduced in Breaking Dawn, but how cool would that be?! Will we meet a new family of vampires? If so, how will they be introduced?

The Denali Clan for that matter ... i thik stephenie planed something different for them ... i thik they will cross the way of the cullens but i think not in peace ... i remember their reaction in eclipse when carlisle asked them for help ... thier attitude wasn't very friendly ... and the death of victoria doesn't make this better!
i have a little antipathy with them becaus i thought they were nice but i've hocused!

i deffinatly think the denali clan will have a significant part. weve heard to much about them so it would just be silly if we never got to "meet" them.
and i think they will bring drama, drama, drama!
lke... 2 hours before the wedding Tanya tries to seduce Edward (i dont blame her, cause honestly, who could resist) and then somehow bella will see and get the wrong idea and jump to conclusions and run off to find jacob, but she wont be able to and shell only find Seth who will see bella running around franticly in a wedding dress shouting for jake. jake will find out and race back. but in the time it takes for him to get back, edwaed will have getten to bella and set everything straight. everything will be fixed and the wedding will be back on. then just as Jake bursts in on the wedding, who shows up? none other than the volturi. -BATTLE between volturi and werewolfs, edward steps in to save seth because their friends, and jake ends up sacrificing his life to save bella but Marcus can sense the strength of Leahs love for jake (she imprinted) so he spares him and then they leave and blah blah blah wedding and balla turns into a vampire and everyone lives happily ever after. haha but thats just a theory.

As everyone keeps saying, yes I have an overwhelming suspicion that the Denali Family is going to have a major role in BD, but Not in a sense of ruining the wedding but hostile jestures at the wrong moment as Belle is freshly new to becoming a vampire. For istance, Bella might accidentally kill Vampires insread of humans, remember she doesnt like the smell of blood.....

I know this is all far fetched, but none of us will now the exact truth till the book is released...{wishing the days would go faster}

As for the Volturi...The have unfinsihed business.
So of course they will be featured in the book.

I think since they were soo interested in Alice, Edward, and Bella.. That they might force them or try to make something happen so they will join them.

I also think they will cause some deaths that will make everyone mad as hell itself..

But maybe there are some new comers... some other new vampires that are learing the "vegetarian" way of life, and maybe a another male starts to get bellas attention away from edward , but wit bella still in love wit edward finds it hard to talk to him about it, and well u know edwards problems wit jealousy!

all theories, but who knows what twist this book can make!

well i think that the volturi and the denali absolutely HAVE to be mentioned.. i mean steph wouldnt just mention the denali several times in the books and then never let us meet them! and the volturi want bella to join them so its inevitable that they will come into the story once more. i think it was too easy in new moon for them to just let alice, edward, and bella go. there was no fight or anything!
also, the cover hugely suggests war or battle. i think the volturi may be on one side and the cullens on the other. the werewolves will most likely side with the cullens even if the treaty is broken. we'll have to see where the denali fall into place but i think they'll eventually side with the cullens too, and the volturi will be defeated.

I think the Volturi will have an important role in Breaking Dawn, though maybe not pivotal. They have already expressed an interest in Alice and Edward, and they were very curious about what Bella's future 'super powah' may be. Maybe they're so interested that they will put pressure on the Cullens to 'turn' her before Edward and Bella have the chance to get married. And since they can't find her, due to her convenient talent of blocking others' powers, she may even have to go into hiding.
Werewolves also play a part. If the Volturi discover the pack of werewolves living down the street from the Cullens, they may come to see what that's all about. It would be kind of cool if the Cullens teamed up with the werewolves again to fight the Volturi.
As for the Denali clan, I don't think they will play too much of a part. Possibly they'll be mentioned a few times, but other than that I don't know. The only possibility I can think of is that the Cullens will need help to fight the Volturi and call on them for assistance. Maybe they'll help, maybe they won't.
I like to think that more vampire covens will be brought into the mix, but who knows? Except Stephenie herself, of course. :D

First of all I would like to say how much I enjoy your podcast! You make me laugh half of the time but then the other half of the time I'm thinking about all of the great theories! <3

But moving on..

I think that the Volturi will definitely play a big part in Breaking Dawn. If they weren't going to, then I don't think that Stephenie would have spent so much time on them already. Sure, they were the reason that Edward went to Italy, but she could have just let the whole situation drop then and there. But they went to Forks, so obviously they're still interested. I think that even more than they want to make sure Bella becomes a vampire, they want to learn more about Edward and Alice. But either way, they'll for sure be in Breaking Dawn.

As for the Denali Clan..well, I don't really like them and as much as I'd like to think that they won't be in Breaking Dawn, they probably will be. I'm not quite sure why I don't like them but they just irk me a little bit. They're good vampires (as good as vampires can be, haha) but I feel like they're going to be really super annoying to The Cullens. Obviously that would be kind of petty of them since they've known each other for a while but they're probably bitter. I don't feel like Tanya will try to win Edward's love but wouldn't it be great if she had to be the one to save Bella at some point? That's a little out there, but I think it'd be a nice twist! Or maybe the Denali Clan tell the Volturi about the werewolves (and give me more reason to dislike them) but something bad happens and they eventually have the help out the Cullens? Eckk. I really would rather not have The Volturi OR the Denali Clan in the book but...it's almost inevitable.
